MY WEEKEND INSIGHTS 28/01/2023
HOLD UP THE CONDEMNATION, RATHER SUPPORT THE YOUNG PEOPLE IN AFRICA
Nitaanza kwa kuwatakia mwaka mpya wenye mafanikio 2023! My wish for you is that this year be memorable in every good sense, may you receive favor from God and people, and may all your desires and aspirations be fulfilled this year.
I come here once again with a big burden – one about the young Souls of Africa.
Recently, i was discussing with a band of old friends about the prevailing high moral decadence amongst the young boys and girls. My friends claim that “It’s only for the prowess of smart phones and social media that these evils are being exposed but the same happened during our youthful days”. I agreed and disagreed at the same time. We sure swum through adolescence stage as Juveniles but i never remember having the freedom to be immoral -at least publicly.
Flashes of a young girl posting herself almost naked on twitter with words “if I were with you in a room…” are hurting, not just that but she goes on to attract 1000 comments and shares from gents. Or a social media post/Tweet of herself almost naked with a caption “Me and World Cup, what would do you choose?”
Only a few weeks have gone by, an innocent girl, yes she is innocent because she is a minor who needed and still needs protection. Inhumane video footage made rounds in which she was being beaten by her fellow teens over a boy! People were calling her all sorts of names, from wasted life to slut on the streets.. I am wondering if any of us thought of the possibility of this girl and many girls and boys out there being mentored to become world class leaders?.
An old adage goes “An idle mind is the devils workshop”, some youth are unproductive, spend almost all their time & Life on social media, in trading centers switching between pool table spots, matatu cards and what some call Executive chilling in sports betting. Worse still, the increase in alcoholism and drug abuse amongst youth isn’t helping.
It is our individual responsibility to help these young people to have their tremendous potential realized and exploited. I believe that the amazing wealth of Africa can be put to use to help African youths out of the predicaments of poverty, disease, illiteracy; among other challenges.
I therefore call upon Government organizations, individuals (young and old), like minded organizations to join Young And Flourishing Network to realize this desired change in our communities and restore sanity to the world.
I strongly believe that there’s no better time for an African renaissance and the young people who constitute over 60% of Africa’s population could lead the scientific and socioeconomic advancement of motherland.
